When Design Becomes Purpose: Jewellery That Raises Awareness

Some designs begin with beauty.
Others begin with heartbreak. This story began with loss, and a determination to make that loss matter. A client who had lost her stepdad to bowel cancer, alongside a close friend, founded Time is Precious, a charity dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging vital conversations. After attending one of their luncheons, I knew I wanted to do more than simply support from the sidelines. I wanted to contribute in the way I know best. Through design.

Designing with Meaning at the Core

Working closely with the ladies, we set out to create a one-of-a-kind pendant that reflected their passion and the heart of the charity. Every element was intentional. A particular gemstone was sourced for its colour and cut. Not chosen for trend, but for meaning.
Ribbons of gold were designed to flow through the piece, symbolising time, movement, and the preciousness of life itself. The form subtly echoed the Time is Precious logo, creating a timeless design with a powerful message. This was never about creating jewellery for jewellery’s sake.
It was about creating something that could speak when words fall short.

From Design to Impact

The pendant was crafted to be auctioned at the biannual charity ball. On the night, it sparked conversation, connection, and generosity. Funds were raised. Awareness was shared. The room felt the weight of why the piece existed. The most moving moment came later. The new owner chose not to keep it, but instead gave it to the very special woman, someone who created the charity and whose stepdad’s legacy is now worn close to her heart, every single day.

Doherty necklace

This one began with anger, heartbreak, and loss. My clients came to me after a home invasion. Many cherished and deeply sentimental pieces had been stolen, jewellery passed down from great-grandparents, each piece carrying love, history, and memory. As part of their insurance claim, they were referred to me, understandably…
